Toby Tan CA

Manager

Toby Tan is a Chartered Accountant and is a Supervisor in the business and taxation advisory team.

He joined the firm in 2009 with extensive experience in SME business administration, taxation and tax planning, financial reporting, structuring, planning, forecasting, budgeting and process efficiency review. His clients are from diverse industries including manufacturing, building and construction, medical devices, hospitality, wholesale and retail sectors.

Additionally, Toby has been involved in specific projects such as reviewing and setting up business operations in New Zealand, developing a complex three-way modelling forecasting/budgeting tool for clients, preparing businesses for sale and acting as an interim financial controller.

Before joining Koustas & Co, Toby worked at two mid-tier Melbourne-based accounting firms as a Supervisor. He also spent over two years in the UK from 2004, following a six-month secondment two years earlier. While in the UK, he gained experience in financial reporting under the UK (GAAP) and international financial reporting standards (IFRS). His first role was at a publicly listed company where he helped prepare financial statements to the UK GAAP/ IFRS standards, and managed audit files for special purpose companies (SPCs). He later worked as a Finance Manager at a private equity company and also oversaw new accounting systems and processes.

Prior to his UK experience, Toby worked as an accountant at a mid-tier chartered accountancy practice and in a charted accountancy practice in Essendon. He also worked as an income audit officer at a casino.

Over the last 15 years, Toby has held various accountancy roles and has served both as an external advisor and within a business as part of the finance management team. Through these, he has gained valuable industry skills and greater understanding of organisations. Equally, it has provided him with greater insight into managing employee relationships across an organisation.
